This how-to guide will demonstrate how to create a news article for the news hub and then how to surface the news story across the website

Who can use this feature

The news hub provides a news service across the website for external users and students

  • Corporate communications editors
  • Student communications editors

Create a new news article

Step-by-step guide

  1. Locate the news folder in site view and click the 3 dots next to the relevant folder
  2. Select Create new entry in Section drop-down
  3. Add new entry News Article content type

Top-level tab

Page configuration and general set-up of article

  1. Add the title of the news article into the Title text field
  2. Add a brief summary of the news article in the Summary text field
  3. Select the date in Publication date with the calendar picker
  4. In Image, upload or select an image for the news article. Anchor image position in Background image config to make sure image works across all viewports
  5. Add meta description, image and keywords in the Meta component
  6. Custom tags are for reference use only when importing archived news articles
  7. Select which audience the news article is for. If external check University news. If for students check Student news. For both audiences check both boxes.
  8. Select one or more categories the news article is associated with in News categories. Please note for Student news only select the Student category.
  9. Select existing or create new tags for the news article in News tags. Please note tags are not needed for Student news articles.
  10. Add any other news articles related to the news article you are building in Related news

Student Filters tab

Apply all the relevant filters to Student news articles ONLY

  1. Attach or create a category to help filter Student news articles by:
    • Audience eg New students, Current students etc
    • Level eg Undergraduate, Postgraduate etc
    • Category eg Academic, IT etc
    • Location eg Canterbury, Medway etc

Tools needed to craft your article's main content

  1. Enter your article's first sentence into the Lead-in text field for emphasis.
  2. Choose how to house your content with a set of dedicated components:

Top tip

Links vs Buttons

As a rule on content pages and news articles there is a clear distinction between the use of buttons and links:

  • Links are used when you’re navigating to another place, such as: 'Read more' page, 'Adult Nursing' course page, etc.
  • Buttons are used when you are performing an action, such as: 'submit,' 'cancel,' 'apply now,' 'upload,' etc.

Add supporting material and additional navigation

  1. Choose from a list of supporting components:

Order of components

  • Always start with a heading 'Return to' followed by either News hub or Student news link
  • Then, if needed, Related links with a contextual heading like 'Related links', 'Related pages', etc.
  • Add a Profile card next, if required
  • Finish with any files for download

This is an example of how to build the sidebar section. Please note that for Student news replace 'News hub' with external link to 'Student news'

Add generic information indirectly associated with the article

  1. Choose from a list of components

Step-by-step guide

  1. Open News hub [Content type: Page: News landing]
  2. In Feature article, click on select a news article and add your news article
  3. Then in Featured image add an image, usually the same main image used in the article. Add Alt text for accessibility
  4. You can adjust the position of the image using Background image config to make sure the main focal point remains visible across all devices

  1. Open News hub [Content type: Page: News landing]
  2. In Feature Row, add articles (max 3)
  3. Drag to rearrange order

  1. Once a category or categories have been added to a news article it will display on the News hub landing page
  2. The latest 3 news articles are automatically added to all the associated category sections

  3. Select a news article in the featured article composer
