Students will develop their understanding of the Elizabethan and Jacobean and consider social and political talking points of the period.
In this one- to two-hour masterclass with an academic and/or ambassadors, students will develop their understanding of the Elizabethan and Jacobean eras as a period that saw the establishment of the theatre as a specific performance space, and as a forum in which various social and political talking points of the period could be explored.
Students will deepen their understanding of context of Shakespeare’s work including the historical and cultural contexts of the drama and the material conditions of the Elizabethan and Jacobean theatre. This part of the session can be a “generalist” account or focus on either race or gender in the Elizabethan/Jacobean Stage. Please specify your preferred focus or a “general” workshop at the time of booking.
The second half of the session will include interactive discussion of an Elizabethan or Jacobean play of your choosing. Please let the team know your preferred play at the time of booking.
