Mrs Mary Brown

Mary is Principal Lecturer, Pathway Leader for MBA Leadership and Management in Healthcare, and the Module Leader for Leadership for Organisations.

I registered as a General Nurse in the 1960s and later completed several ENB courses; the Diploma in Nursing [ London]; the Diploma in Surgical Nursing; the BSc (Hons) Nursing Studies at Surrey University, alongside an Open University in Social Psychology; FETC, Clinical Nurse Tutor Course; the one year PgCLT at Surrey University; following graduation from Surrey University. In early 1990, I obtained an MA in Health Services Management at University of Kent. I am currently attending the University of Kent, undertaking a module on Health Service Evaluation. Life-long learning ensures my professional and academic credibility.

Over the past 30 years, I have been at the forefront of devaluing programmes/modules that met the emergent agenda in healthcare for practitioners, emerging into leadership roles at all levels. I am Module Leader for Leadership, Entrepreneurship and Innovation and Transforming Health through Evaluation, as well as Leadership for Organizations within the Postgraduate Masters. I have the privilege of facilitating learning for trainee Advanced Practitioner across all the professional disciplines. Since 2017, I have been involved with the PgCert for the London Clinical Fellows , mainly General Practitioners. I worked on the commission tender for this PgCert in 2022 and was successful for the next 5 years. Most of my teaching for 20 years has been at Masters level. Additionally, I work alongside colleagues at undergraduate level on several modules. 

  1. MA - Health Service Management: Impact evaluation: Preparation Of Preceptors undertaken over an 2 year period.
  2. PGCLT: Nurse Teachers Perception of Reflection and Reflection in Action, Novice to Expert (Distinction).
  3. BSc (Hons) - Student Nurses Expectations of their Mentoring Experiences over 3 year period.

I am active member of the Royal College of Nursing and the Royal Society of Medicine. I am on the Management forums and Research forums at the RCN.
