For when you have taken an exam or time-constrained assessment (TCA) on the scheduled date and time but experienced an issue during the exam which affected your performance.

You can request to void your original attempt and re-take an exam or other time-constrained assessment (e.g. presentation, live performance or practical session) if you feel your difficulties affected your performance on your first attempt AND you have supporting evidence that meets the criteria.

  • You can submit your request on the day of the exam/time-constrained assessment, and for up to seven calendar days afterward
  • You must submit your evidence with your application.

Key information about impaired performance requests

  • You cannot use this request type for coursework assessment.

  • You cannot use this request type if you haven’t attempted the exams or TCAs. If you need to postpone / defer an assessment you haven’t attempted, you must use the evidence-based extension request. For your request to be approved, it must be for an acceptable reason. Check the Eligibility Criteria and Acceptable Types of Supporting Evidence.

  • Your request will be considered by your Faculty Panel, so you should normally receive a decision within 21 working days of submitting your form.

  • If your impaired performance request is approved, your original attempt will be voided and you will be given the opportunity to re-attempt your exam at the next assessment point for your course. You will need to attempt the new assessment on the date given to achieve a mark - you cannot ask for your original mark to be reinstated if your impaired performance request is approved and you don’t then take the new attempt.

  • When you receive confirmation that your request has been successful, you will also find out the date when you will re-take the exam/TCA. This will normally be in the next assessment period for your Academic Calendar.

  • The timeframe for your provisional mark and feedback will be based on the extended deadline.
