Self-certification allows you to extend or postpone two assessments per academic year.
You cannot use self-certification to extend a deadline that has already been extended through self-certification, an evidence-based extension, a Temporary Learning Agreement (TLA) or a Learning and Placement Support Plan (LSP).
You can submit a self-certification request up to 14 days before your deadline.
You must submit your request:
For coursework, no later than 2pm on the deadline date
For time-constrained assessments, before the start time of the assessment.
Your course team will process your request, and you should receive a decision within three working days via your University email. Please check your emails regularly.
If approved, submit your coursework as confirmed. Late submissions will incur penalties, and missing assessments will result in a score of 0%.
Once approved, your self-certification request will count as one of your two allowed self-certifications, even if you end up submitting on time or earlier than the extended deadline.
The timeframe for your provisional mark and feedback will be based on the extended deadline.
Please ensure you complete the right form your Faculty. If you are not sure which Faculty and School your course sits in, you can check this in your MyRecord Course Details.
Students studying at a partner institution need to make an exceptional circumstances request using the forms available from their Course Administrative team within their Partner Institution.
If you have questions about extensions or postponements under the exceptional circumstances procedure, discuss them with your Personal Academic Tutor (PAT), Course Director, or Course Administrative Team.
