Student Welcome Week
Academic Welcome and Induction
Your academic welcome and induction is a critical part of early student engagement and should provide the opportunity for students to build sense of building belonging. A set of guidance notes has been provided for staff to support students transitioning into university.
The guidance includes principles of Good Academic Induction at the following link Transition Orientation and Induction SharePoint
to support the planning process to help course directors to provide academic inductions that support students to encourage early engagement.
The guidance advises how induction should be constructed to support students to build:
-
Competence to grow key stills and knowledge to get them started to learn
-
Community to foster belonging, good peer to peer and staff / student relationships
-
Identity to celebrate the diversity of students
An academic welcome should be provided for all groups of students (UG / PG / Apprenticeship Students / Partnership Students / International Students) even though some may not be on campus for welcome week.
