Student Success modules

These are bite size modules are designed to help you settle in and obtain core skills such as critical thinking, digital literacy, and sustainability.

In your first year you will study three of these five credit modules alongside your main course content. One of these modules Your Journey to Success at CCCU (Transition into Level 4) is compulsory, but you can choose the other two. 

Foundation Year students will study Your Journey to Success at CCCU (Transition into Higher Education) in year zero, plus your choice of two of the Success modules below. In your first year you will then choose three more Success modules.

Success Modules

Consolidate your first steps on your CCCU journey, reflecting on your strengths and development areas and considering what success will mean for you. Explore the resources and opportunities available at CCCU to help you meet challenges with confidence and determination. Develop a personal action plan to keep building your sense of purpose and belonging and move forward positively on your chosen course. 

This module is compulsory for first year students.

(Foundation Year students will have done Your Journey to Success at CCCU (Transition to Higher Education) and so do not do this module.)

Take your first steps on your CCCU journey, reflecting on your strengths and  personal development areas and considering what success will mean for you. Discover support, resources and opportunities available at CCCU to help you meet challenges with confidence and determination in order to reach your goals. Develop a personal action plan to build your sense of purpose and belonging and get your uni experience off to a positive start. 

How do you know what is right and what is wrong?

You will question why people hold the opinions they do, what lies behind people’s ingrained instincts on a range of issues, and navigate moral questions that arise in everyday life.

Be guided through a range of topical examples, such as: is it right to pull down statues; ought you be able to say whatever you want; should drugs be legal; why shouldn’t students pay tuition fees, and is violence always wrong?

Discover the diverse cultural stories of our campuses. Whether you are new to the region, or have lived here all your life, this module will help you find your place at CCCU and understand how this region has been a catalyst for global change.

Experts will help you discover new stories about the bishops, educators, activists, smugglers, artists, and others who have influenced our heritage sites, and illustrate how these legacies continue to affect us now.

Explore secret locations, learn forgotten histories, and map out your own cultural canvas.

5 credits

The world is full of people and civilisations who learn from their setbacks, leading them to be successful in their endeavours.

Through a range of diverse case studies, you will explore the learning process, how to foster confidence and courage, become adaptable, and develop a positive outlook.

This module will encourage you to reflect upon and extract meaningful insights from your experiences, helping you to get the most out of your time as a student and beyond.

Do you want to become a successful digital student? In this module you will be challenged to develop an adaptable, critical, and ethical approach in our increasingly digital world.

You will be exploring a range of current and emerging technologies by investigating and considering the digital world and the societal and cultural issues that it raises, such as equality of access, and the sustainable use of technology.

Empower yourself to stand up for what matters, be an agent of change and make a positive difference in the world.

Develop your capability to work effectively in collaboration both as a CCCU student and as a graduate in the workplace and the global community, confronting challenges with critical thinking, compassion and equity. Foster your teamwork and leadership skills across disciplines, recognising the importance of diverse perspectives and understanding how to empower yourself and others.

This module will enable to you to consider your future as a graduate and reflect on your professional aspirations. You'll learn to identify and enhance your skills, explore opportunities to build a successful career toolkit, and set goals to maximise your time at CCCU and beyond.

We will help you to understand the motivations, values, and perceptions about the world of work, and will provide you with opportunities to explore the landscape of employment, including the options and pathways that are available to you on your employment journey.

How do we survive and thrive on a planet in crisis?

Using an open questioning approach, this module explores key global sustainability challenges including the causes and effects of climate change and biodiversity loss, continued reliance on economic growth and social and environmental inequalities.

You will be encouraged to think about how you can take an active role in creating a more sustainable future through your everyday life, studies and work.

You’ll leave with an awareness of the wider projects and opportunities you can get involved with during your time at CCCU to take your experience and understanding of sustainability to the next level.

Believe what you read? Our media diet shapes our understanding of the world, so we need to recognise how both social media and news media don’t always give us the full story. In this module, you will gain the confidence to critically assess public information, look beyond the headlines, and get to the heart of important current issues.
