This workshop provides a great opportunity for students to learn the basic mechanical design of artificial robotic hand.
In this interactive one/two-hour workshop with an academic and/or postgraduate ambassadors, students will develop their knowledge of how a robotic hand can work form biomedical and mechanical perspectives. For one hour masterclass, students will learn to design and develop a basic paper based robotic hand from recyclable items. The advance workshop is two hours where hydraulic or motorized automated systems can be used to transmit mechanical energy to activate an artificial hand controlled by sensors. During the session students will apply this knowledge to the construction and control of an artificial hand. Students will also have opportunity to critically consider the relative advantages and limitations of methods to control the robotic hand in industry and healthcare settings. The complexity of the explanation and content of this workshop is adapted to ensure age/stage appropriate delivery. If notified in advance this workshop can be adapted to focus specifically on biomedical or mechanical engineering to suit the needs/interests of your students. Curriculum Links:
