Introduction to referencing

Assess your understanding of referencing

Take time to reflect on your learning

Getting referencing right requires more than just attention to detail; it requires developing respect for other people’s intellectual property and acknowledging their contribution to your ideas and arguments. It involves managing the information you find and using it ethically.

By adopting good note-taking skills, you can ensure that you do not inadvertently plagiarise another person’s work.

Referencing is core to good academic practice and should not be an ‘end of assignment’ task, but embedded throughout the research and writing process.

Reflect on how you can develop your note-taking skills to avoid last-minute look-ups for places of publication or page numbers.
