Profile summary
I have worked in both Further and Higher Education for almost 30 years. My career has allowed me to work as an IT Teacher supporting ‘Silver Surfers’ at evening classes to teaching inmates at local prisons.
I joined Canterbury Christ Church University in November 2006 initially as an IT / ECDL Trainer directly supporting students in the Faculty of Health and Wellbeing. From this my role moved to supporting professional services staff in their use of Microsoft applications and core University systems to then managing the IT Service Desk within the IT Department.
Since 2014 I have worked as the Learning Technology Skills Developer supporting all staff in the use of the tools which make up the University’s Learning Platform Suite.
Working closely with the Digital Academic Developers and the TEL Support Officers I am able to respond to current Faculty trends and needs in the world of Teaching and Learning. Delivering timetabled workshops as well as programme personalised training and 1:1 coaching sessions.
I have been instrumental in designing and implementing self-directed online learning resources such as the ’12 TELs of Christmas’ events which introduced staff to tools and how they could be used to engage their students in different ways. Appreciating that staffs’ time is precious and wishing to deliver quick, easy and digestible skills development in a bite-size format I published the ‘TEL me in 2’ blog posts, which were quick hints, tips and tricks each explained in under 2 minutes.
I am an Ordinary Member with the Association for Learning Technology (ALT), a Member of the British Computer Society (BCS), hold a Certificate in Education (CertEd) and a Diploma in Management (DMS) and was one of the first to achieve the Microsoft Office Specialist (Expert) qualification through the University.
