Find out where a degree in Psychology can take you.

If you’re fascinated by how people think, feel, and behave, then studying Psychology at university might be perfect for you. Taking a scientific approach, Psychology is an incredible subject that dives into the workings of the human mind.

But, what happens after you’ve graduated? Where can a Psychology degree take you? What careers can you do with a Psychology degree?

Thankfully, studying Psychology teaches you multiple transferable skills that you can use to enter a range of professions. From learning how to communicate to dealing with data and research, as a Psychology graduate, you’ll have a lot to offer to your employers.

Let’s find out what you can do with a Psychology degree.

1. Marketing and Market Research

Marketing is all about knowing your audience: knowing what they want and why, and knowing how they want to engage.

Knowing how to analyse people and their behaviours is a fantastic skill in helping brands tailor their marketing strategies. Here, your data analysis, creativity, and understanding of people will make you shine in this career.

2. Education

Whether you want to become a teacher or work with children or adults in a non-teaching role, having a Psychology degree gives you the skills to work well with whoever you want to educate, particularly if you enjoy developmental psychology.

3. Mental health

With a Psychology degree, you can begin a career in mental health as you’ll have gained a deeper understanding of human behaviour, emotional wellbeing, and mental health challenges that people can face.

Particularly if you decide to focus on clinical psychology, entering the mental health profession could be the start of a successful career.

4. Business, management, and human resource

If you want to enter a more corporate profession, then a Psychology degree would be extremely beneficial as you’ll have gained key skills such as leadership, analysis, and teamwork throughout your degree.

Your understanding of human behaviour will help you with customer relations, organisational culture, and team dynamics, which will enable you to effectively lead a team or advise others on how to do so.

5. Specialise in your area

Psychology covers many areas, such as forensic, sport, and health. Depending on which specialism you’ve chosen, you could enter a range of careers including:

  • The criminal justice system as a forensic psychologist
  • Sport coaching with a sport and exercise specialism
  • Clinic psychology in the healthcare system.

Wherever your passion lies in Psychology, you have a lot of career options to choose from.

6. Become an accredited psychologist

If you want to become an accredited psychologist, then you can do so with our degree in Psychology. By completing an accredited degree by the British Psychological Society (BPS), this gives you Graduate Basis for Chartered Membership (GBC), which is essential for postgraduate training.

The next step is to choose your specialism and complete an accredited Master’s and/or doctoral programme, which you can do at our main Canterbury Campus or Salomons Institute of Psychology in Tunbridge Wells, depending on which course you choose at postgraduate level.

The demand for psychologists is increasing here in the UK. The skills and insights you gain whilst studying Psychology will make you highly employable, particularly if you choose to take an additional placement year, which you can do on any of our undergraduate courses.
