As a sports therapy and rehabilitation student, you'll have plenty of opportunity to gain practical experience through a variety of experiential learning, including working in our very own rehab clinic.
Experiential learning refers to the practical element of your course. This means you'll gain practical experience as you learn 'on the job'. From year 1, you'll be working with the public, and this will continue throughout your entire degree.
What’s more, you’ll be able to become a member of the British Association of Sport Rehabilitators (BASRaT) if you pass the entrance exam and complete a minimum of 400 hours of experience. Gaining these hours is certainly achievable on the course thanks to the varied opportunities available throughout your degree.
For each year of your Sports Therapy degree, you’ll be expected to complete minimum hours of practical experience (with these hours increasing each year).
During your first year, you’ll complete these hours by working at external events. Past events have included the London Marathon and working with local charities such as Pilgrim’s Hospice and Cancer Trust. You’ll also be first aid trained in your first semester, ensuring you are ready to work with the public in a supervised environment.
For year 2, you’ll be ready to supervise first year students during these external events, enabling you to implement the knowledge and skills you’ve learned so far, whilst you learn how to delegate and work within a team.
In the summer of your second year, you’ll then move to the STaR Clinic. With the knowledge and experience gained so far, you’ll be prepared to work with clients under supervision, giving you the opportunity to fine tune your craft with the public in a safe and supported learning environment.
In your final year you’ll be expected to complete just one day a week in the clinic, with the option of doing more if you wish to do so. Due to the popularity and success of CCCU’s STaR Clinic, there will be plenty of hours to complete. You’ll also need to take on an industry placement, giving you the opportunity to top up your experiential learning.
Our degree in Sport Therapy and Rehabilitation will teach you to become proficient in BASRaT’s key competencies, which you’ll be able to confidently demonstrate upon completion of your course. Through becoming a member of BASRaT, you’ll have exclusive access to their CPD platform and professional advice, as well as working as a registered sport rehabilitator, which will instantly enhance your career prospects as soon as you graduate.
Through our layered approach to learning throughout the three years of the course, not only will you spend your time building your knowledge, skills, and confidence, but you’ll work closely with your entire cohort. Our course fosters a supportive community throughout years 1-3 and, by your final year, you’ll have the skills to practise, build client relations, and work with other professionals like yourselves.
