We provide examples of option modules. The availability of specific option modules may vary from year to year. The offer of an option will be subject to a minimum number of students choosing the module to ensure the appropriate student experience. You will be taught using a variety of methods, including practical experiences, workshops, seminar and lectures based sessions, and where selected, field trips.
Some of these seminars, practicals and workshops will include smaller group work to develop your understanding lecture material and you will be provided with tutorial support whenever you need it.
Outside of the time you spend in contact session with tutors, you will be continue to learn through self-directed study. This might include reading textbooks, journal articles or other sources, taking notes, engaging in peer discussions with your class or preparing work for your next contact session. This should equate to 3 -5 hours per week for each module you are studying.
Every tutor will help direct you towards specific reading and/or activities that help to support your learning and development. Your personal academic tutor will also help to review your learning and offer support.
Your overall workload typically consists of 10-14 contact hours per week. You will also undertake 15-20 hours of independent learning and assessment related activity each week.
During each semester you will normally study three modules, so each module will have a 10-14 hour commitment per week.

The course frequently provides you with opportunities to test your understanding of the subject informally before you complete the formal assessments that count towards your final mark. Many modules contain practice or 'formative' assessments or similar submissions for which you receive feedback from your tutor. Formative or practice assessments and submissions are developmental and any grades you receive for them do not count towards your module mark.
The formal or 'summative' assessments on each module are planned to take account of two interdependent aspects - the acquisition of relevant theory / principles, and the development of both academic and practical skills.
Assessment methods include a range of coursework assessments such as essays, reports, portfolios, presentations, your final year project (dissertation) and written examinations. The grades from formal assessments count towards your module mark.
You will be assessed through a range of methods, that might include individual and group presentations, portfolios, case studies, essays, scientific reports and examinations.
Our Sport Management degree will provide you with exciting career opportunities in sport business. Graduates could pursue roles in sport management and administration, event management, sport development or positions within the leisure industry.
Successful completion of the degree also opens routes to further study, including teaching opportunities through a PGCE, and to other forms of postgraduate study at Master’s through to PhD level.
The degree will encourage you to work closely with staff and industry professionals to develop your skills ready for work in the sport business world.
