The availability of specific option modules may vary from year to year. The offer of an option will be subject to a minimum number of students choosing the module to ensure the appropriate student experience. How you’ll learn

You'll be taught through a combination of lectures, seminars and practical workshops. Workshops in smaller groups, will enable you to discuss with your peers and develop your understanding of the subject. You will also be supported by your personal academic tutor.

Between Years 2 and 3 you'll have the opportunity to gain work experience on a year-long placement with an external organisation.

In your final year you will undertake a Major Project that can be either on an academic based subject or can be based on a live brief from a relevant industry.

When not attending taught sessions, you'll continue learning through self-study. Typically, this involves reading journal articles and books, undertaking research in the library, working on projects, and preparing for coursework assignments/examinations, workshops and seminars. Your module tutor will direct you towards specific readings and/or activities to complete before class.

Your overall workload typically consists of 60 credits of study across modules each semester, equating to 12 direct taught contact hours per week. You will also undertake 15-20 hours of independent learning and assessment related activity each week.

Our teaching team will share with you their expert knowledge, experience and research insights during stimulating workshops. You will be taught by qualified practitioners and industry leaders as well as university instructors. We also invite guest speakers to enrich your learning experience.

The majority of staff have worked as practitioners and hold membership of the professional body for HR specialists - the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD) - bringing a wealth of experience to student learning.

The teaching team is actively involved in research, knowledge exchange, and cross-cultural teaching at institutions in other parts of Europe.

We are committed to working with you, helping and supporting you as you prepare for your big move into the people management profession. You will be inspired, encouraged and challenged by our HRM course team throughout your studies to ensure that you are well equipped to fulfil your future role as a HR professional, getting the best out of people.

    How you’ll be assessed

You'll be assessed by a number of methods including reports, business simulations, oral presentations, reflective logs, computer based assessments, essays, examinations, and case studies. Some modules include group assessments to help you become familiar with working as a team; often a key aspect of professional and graduate level work.

This mixture is intended to build individual knowledge and skills in the application of theory and best practice to realistic business scenarios. It also provides valuable experience in the importance of effective teamwork and leadership in achieving goals.

    Your future career

The skills and knowledge you gain on your degree will equip you to enter a range of professional and business roles in human resources, such as: HR generalist, HR manager, HR advisor, learning and development specialist, HR business partner, recruitment consultant, and HR outsourcing consultant, etc.

You can also go on to study a postgraduate master’s degree in Human Resource Management or in any specialist area of people and organisation management.
