The Politics and Global Sustainability programme at Canterbury Christ Church University are hosting a Kent County Council election hustings.

Featuring candidates from the Canterbury electoral divisions, the evening will help Canterbury residents gain a better understanding of the candidates’ stance on key issues ahead of May’s ballot. As well as give the local community the opportunity to question them on the responsibilities of KCC from schools to social care, roads to rubbish, and libraries to leisure.

The event will be held at Augustine Hall, on Wednesday 23 April 7-8.15pm. It follows on from last year’s successful General Election Hustings, which saw hundreds of people engage with local politics. Part of the Politics and Global Sustainability programme’s Making Politics Matter campaign, it aims to support local democracy, empower and enrich our local communities through engagement and thought-provoking debate. The event will also be live streamed via KMTV’s YouTube channel.

Each candidate attending will be given a period of time to outline their party’s main policies, after which a question and answer session with the audience will follow.

Questions to the candidates can be submitted both prior to the event via email –corporatecommunications@canterbury.ac.uk - and by audience members on the evening.

The event is free and open to all, but booking is essential. Book you place via canterbury.ac.uk/hustings-2025
