A feature overlay allows you to highlight a specific theme using imagery, a prominent title and links.

They can be used in tandem with other full-width components to add sub-sections to pages below the main content area.

It is possible to have more than one feature overlay on a page.

What a Feature Overlay looks like on the live site.

To give you an idea of how a Feature Overlay is created, below is what our example component looks like within Contensis.

A Feature overlay component in Contensis.

Feature Overlays can be edited as follows:

  • The title is what will be displayed on the component once it is live
  • Text is a normal text box, but is optional. Where input, it displays to give context to the overlay.

In our example, it looks like this in Contensis:

Feature overlay text.
  • A banner image is a required element and should reflect the theme of the overlay. It is selected from the image library already within Contensis by using the green '+ Select an image' button, or you can use the 'Upload' link to add a new one. Images must be at least 1920px by 1080px - Contensis can then scale it to the correct size.
  • The panel image is optional and is chosen from images within Contensis or a new one uploaded using the same method as with the banner image. A panel image must be at least 600px by 400px and Contensis will then scale it to the correct size. It displays above links on the right-hand side of the panel.

For reference, in our example, the panel image looks like this in Contensis:

Next up, links to relevant areas of the site can be added from existing entries on Contensis - including pages within Contensis or external links - or a new one created where required. More than one link can be added though it is recommended that you don't add too many.

Remember: A Feature Overlay can be added to multiple pages once created, but if you edit it in one place those edits will appear across the website.

Remember: Individual Feature Overlays can be used on multiple pages. If you are editing one, ensure that the edits will be relevant across all locations where the component is sited on the website.

When you are happy with your Feature Overlay, you can then publish it. You can see an example of a Feature Overlay on the homepage where it says 'Apply for Accommodation'.
