Accomodation FAQ

What's the difference between student accommodation and hotels?

  • Student accommodation is built for long-term living; to feel like a home for our students and to encourage a sense of community. As such, rooms are not along a shared corridor as with a hotel, but arranged into flats of two to eight rooms behind a front door, with either a kitchenette or full kitchen/lounge shared between guests in each flat. There may be other guests in the flat with you using the communal kitchen (and bathroom in non-ensuite accommodation), but every bedroom still has its own lock that other guests cannot open.

What kind of accommodation do you have?

  • We have over a thousand rooms across the Canterbury area in our portfolio, ranging from Victorian houses to a 400-room site constructed in 2016. These rooms are a mixture of styles, from “hotel style” ensuite rooms to shared bathroom rooms.

What are the dates that the student accommodation is available to rent?

  • The dates can vary year on year but as a rough guide it is usually the first weekend of July to the first weekend of September. Dates before or after this time may be requested but cannot be guaranteed. Our students often leave their accommodation the last week of June and come back in mid-September for the academic year.

What time is check in and check out?

  • Check in is from 4PM onwards and check out is by 10AM at the latest. All sites have 24/7 Security to assist with late check in and early check out.

Are pets allowed in your accommodation?

  • Unfortunately, only guide dogs or assistance dogs are allowed in our accommodation.

Can I view the student accommodation before deciding I want to stay?

  • Yes, we are more than happy to offer show rounds of any accommodation site. If you require a show round of accommodation, please note that from September to July when students are in residence, we must give at least 1 weeks’ notice for any visit. Please also kindly note that when visiting the student accommodation, it is currently being lived in by our students and therefore will perhaps not be as clean as one would expect from a hotel. All accommodation is given a thorough deep clean prior to summer business.

Is breakfast included in the price?

  • Breakfast is not included in the nightly price but is available at our Augustine House and North Holmes Road campuses, for an additional charge.

How big are the beds?

  • Single beds are 3ft wide, and double beds are either 4ft or 4ft6in wide, depending on location.

Can two people share a bed?

  • As our rooms are purpose-built for students, they are designed to accommodate only one person. Double beds are either 4ft or 4ft 6 doubles, which are slightly smaller than the “standard” double bed, so may be a tighter fit for two guests. We are happy to make a double occupancy booking, but please note there will be an additional surcharge, to cover the extra laundry and cleaning costs associated with this.

Do you have any twin rooms?

  • We do not have any twin rooms in our portfolio, where twin room refers to two separate beds within one room.

Can I smoke at the accommodation sites?

  • All our accommodation sites and rooms are no-smoking. There is a designated smoking area at Petros Court, Lanfranc, and St George’s. Guests found smoking outside of designated areas may be subject to fines.
