Both current and prospective Christ Church students can apply for a Sport Scholarship. Selection for the Scholarship programme will be by the University's Sports Scholarship Committee.

Preference will be given to applicants completing in one of the University’s three focus sports, these are Hockey, Rugby and Cricket – where established relationships with local clubs help to hone the skills of talented student-athletes.

To be considered for a Performance level Scholarship, you will need to compete at county level or above in your sport. For an elite-level scholarship, you will need to compete at a national standard or above. These requirements may differ slightly depending on the sport.

Have three application windows for potential scholars. All applications within these windows will be considered with the strongest applications advanced to a selection committee.

Applications should be submitted with the following windows:

  • 2nd January – 1st April 2024
  • 15th April – 16th June 2024
  • 1st July – 11th August

All sports scholars are required to engage with the programme via a number of methods. These include updating the University with their progress via social media or case studies, volunteering at events such as open days and representing CCCU in BUCS, Varsity or other University sporting competitions.

Scholars will be lucky enough to be rewarded with a guaranteed bursary for one academic year. Scholars can then take one of two routes for re-appointment to the programme prior to the yearly June deadline:

1. Scholar may be extended an invitation to remain on bursary if they are engaged and their sport performance is adequate.

2. Scholars may be invited to reapply; providing evidence of their engagement and performance.

How to sign up?

Applications reopen 1st January 2025. Due to limited spaces and the high level of applications being received, it is not guaranteed that you will be selected for the scheme even if you meet the criteria. All applications need two references.
