Find out what careers you'll be able to enter with a degree in Architectural Engineering.
Choosing a degree is a big decision, especially when your interests span creative design, engineering, and the built environment. Architectural engineering is a dynamic field that bridges the gap between architecture and engineering, focusing on designing, constructing, and maintaining buildings and infrastructure.
Architectural engineering combines the artistic vision of architecture with the technical skills of engineering. You’ll learn how to design buildings that are not only visually appealing but also structurally sound, energy-efficient, and environmentally sustainable.
If you love problem-solving, are passionate about innovative technology, and care about the environment, this degree from CCCU might be your perfect fit.
With an Architectural Engineering degree, you’ll have a wide range of career paths to explore. As architectural engineers play a critical role within a multidisciplinary team, you’ll be able to enter a range of professions upon graduation.
Here are some of the job opportunities that will open up to you once you graduate with a degree in Architectural Engineering.
Structural engineers ensure that buildings can withstand environmental forces like wind, gravity, and earthquakes. They work closely with architects to create safe and durable structures, from skyscrapers to stadiums.
Architectural technologists focus on the technical aspects of building design, translating creative ideas into reality using advanced technologies like CAD (Computer-Aided Design) software and BIM (Building Information Modelling).
As climate change continues to be a concerning issue around the globe, sustainability consultants play a crucial role in reducing the environmental impact of buildings. They advise on materials, energy systems, and design practices to create eco-friendly, energy-efficient buildings.
If you enjoy leading teams and managing complex projects, this role involves overseeing construction projects from start to finish, ensuring they’re delivered on time, within budget, and to high standards.
Building services engineers focus on making buildings comfortable, safe, and efficient to use. They design and implement systems like heating, ventilation, air conditioning, lighting, and even renewable energy installations.
As sustainability becomes more important, demand for professionals in this field continues to grow.
In 2021, we opened our flagship STEM facility, the Verena Holmes building. Home to hi-tech facilities on every floor, you’ll have direct access to our specialist engineering facilities including our Makerspace, 3D printers and VR equipment, as well as our CAD (computer aided design) and mechatronics labs. You’ll also use our active learning labs, which are used for simulations and design development.
Right from the start, you’ll be able to use our equipment, which will allow you to build the technical skills necessary for the workplace.
Not only will you learn in state-of-the-art facilities, but you’ll continue to develop your employability skills throughout the entire course. From year 1, you’ll implement the CDIO (Conceive, Develop, Implement, Operate) method, which is MIT’s (Massachusetts Institute of Technology) innovative framework for budding engineers.
This project-focussed technique will give you the skills to tackle real-world challenges and develop your teamwork skills, which are essential in the construction industry. And we’re one of just a few universities in the UK to teach our students in this way.
What’s more, you’ll be able to work alongside industry partners, giving you the opportunity to gain experience to get you ready for graduate employment.
With a big focus on employability throughout your degree, and the amount of support available to you as a CCCU student, you’ll be both qualified and confidently ready to enter a graduate role.
