Starting university in a different country can be filled with a lot of emotions: enthusiasm, fear, curiosity. From the different culture and language to a different way of living altogether, moving abroad can come with a lot of anxiety as well as excitement.

Thankfully, at Canterbury Christ Church University, we have students from all over the world and we’re incredibly proud of our friendly and welcoming spirit. With students from over 80 countries attending CCCU, you won’t feel alone as an international student in Canterbury.

If you’re thinking about becoming a part of our community, find out more about what you’ll receive as a CCCU student.

1. You’ll study in a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Canterbury is a small city with stunning parks, cobbled streets, and magnificent architecture. Our city is so rich in history and culture, that it’s named a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

You can study amongst some of the country’s most beautiful and famous buildings, such as St Martin’s Church and St Augustine’s Abbey. And as a CCCU student, you’ll have the opportunity to graduate in Canterbury Cathedral.

What’s more, London is less than an hour away by train, and you can reach the beach in just 40 minutes. Canterbury is also the perfect location as it’s on Europe’s doorstep, so if you like to travel and want to visit countries nearby, such as France, Spain, and the Netherlands, then it’s just a quick flight.

2. You’ll be ready for employment upon graduation.

There’s a reason why we’re in the top 20 in the UK for graduates in employment. We prioritise employability and make sure that all our students are fully prepared for work upon graduation.

There’s so much to get involved in at CCCU. All our courses teach employability skills, and we will support you in finding volunteering or work experience through our in-house recruitment agency, Unitemps.

Our Career and Enterprise Service offers so much support to both our students and alumni. From workshops to one-on-one sessions, our employability team offers a huge range of services to ensure that you are ready for employment.

3. You’ll learn in state-of-the-art facilities.

As part of our £150 million transformation of our main Canterbury Campus, we have gained two state-of-the-art, innovative buildings: the Verena Holmes building for STEM and the Daphne Oram creative arts building.

Many of our accredited courses are taught in our Verena Holmes building. It includes industry-spec facilities such as:

  • Laboratories
  • Simulation suites
  • Anatomy Learning Centre
  • Hi-tech Sports Lab
  • Specialist engineering facilities including a makerspace, a mechatronics lab, and a workshop
  • Specialist computer facilities and security software.

The Daphne Oram creative arts building is a dynamic space for students on our more creative courses such as Games Design, Graphic Design, and Music and Performing Arts. Find out more about what’s included in our creative quarter.

4. You’ll have access to scholarships.

We want all our students to thrive. As an international student, you’ll have access to scholarships and bursaries – just remember to read the eligibility criteria. Some of the scholarships that are offered to our international students include:

  • Sport Scholarship
  • Chapel Choir Scholarship
  • Sanctuary Scholarship.

Keep an out on our scholarships and bursaries page as more awards may become available.

5. You’ll become a part of a supportive community.

What makes CCCU certainly stand out is the support that our students are offered throughout their time at university. There’s a variety of services to help you in many areas such as financial support, mental health and wellbeing, employability, and so much more.

Our Students’ Union is also buzzing with societies and fellow students who are ready to welcome and support you as you become a part of our community.

Not all universities offer the amount of support that we offer. But we believe in fostering a community based on mutual respect and helping others, whatever that may be. Not only will you know your lecturers by their first name, but you’ll have the opportunity to socialise with both staff and students through our events.

So, if you were still unsure whether CCCU is the right university for you, we hope that you’re now one step closer into choosing us as your chosen university.

If you have any questions, don’t hesitate to contact our Course Enquiries Team who will be able to answer any of your questions.
