As a student or alumni of Canterbury Christ Church University (CCCU), you could receive a discount for a preparation course with leading SQE Preparation providers BARBRI Global, which can help you confidently prepare for and pass the SQE exams.

After you have graduated with a Law or non-Law degree from CCCU, you may decide to become a solicitor - a qualified legal practitioner who provides legal advice to clients, which could be individuals or businesses, in a specialised area of the law. There are also other legal roles that you may decide to pursue after graduation from CCCU.

The qualification process to become a solicitor involves sitting a two-stage Solicitors Qualifying Exam (SQE) following completion of your degree, as well as undertaking Qualifying Work Experience (QWE).

We have partnered with a global provider of law preparation courses, BARBRI, to offer discounts to aid you on your way to becoming a qualified solicitor. You can benefit from:

  • The SQE1 discount: As a CCCU student or alumni you can get a 20% discount on BARBRI’s full SQE1 course fee.
  • The SQE 2 discount: A £500 BARBRI alumni discount on BARBRI’s full SQE2 course fee.

Two fully-funded scholarships

Canterbury Christ Church University School of Law, Policing and Social Sciences will offer two fully funded SQE 1 scholarships each academic year, to the two best performing final year students as determined by the Law Exam Board. This means the top two students will have their BARBRI SQE 1 preparation course fully paid for by CCCU.

The Solicitor's Qualifying Exam (SQE)

The Solicitor's Qualifying Exam (SQE) was officially introduced in September 2021. It is comprised of two parts, SQE1 and SQE2, and tests functioning legal knowledge through single best answer questions and practical legal skills including client interviewing, advocacy and more. The current Legal Practice Course (LPC) and the Graduate Diploma in Law (GDL) will be phased out over the coming months to make the SQE the only remaining route to qualification as a solicitor.

What BARBRI can offer

BARBRI's SQE Prep courses are designed to help you approach the SQE with confidence. The exam is split into two assessment stages: SQE1 - a functioning legal knowledge test, and a SQE2 - the practical skills assessment stage. BARBRI provides preparation courses for students for each of the two stages, using innovative online technology to provide you with structured and effective learning. The courses are flexible and adaptable to suit your requirements, providing you with all the tools needed for success in SQE1 and SQE2.

The SQE is a standardised exam, therefore ensuring every candidate is held to the same high level of excellence. The SQE exam is open to both Law and non-Law graduates, and Qualifying Work Experience has replaced the highly competitive training contracts that only a select few were able to secure, which makes it more accessible to a wider range of students.

Provided you have completed an undergraduate degree, you need to fulfil the remainder of the requirements which includes:
