Have you got questions about applying to university through Clearing?

Well, you've come to the right place! Here, you can find answers to the questions we get asked the most about Clearing, meaning you can have peace of mind when applying to start at CCCU this September.

What is Clearing?

Clearing is the period in which UCAS works together with universities to help fill any available places they may have. In 2024 Clearing opens on Friday 5 July. You are eligible to apply for a course through Clearing if you:

  • gained the exact or better grades than required, but want to go to a different university
  • didn't meet the conditions required
  • weren't made any offers
  • declined your offers.

Clearing also gives people who may not have thought about going to university the opportunity to apply.

Clearing FAQs

No, in many instances you don't!

If you have decided that the choices you have already made via UCAS aren't for you for whatever reason, even if you already have offers, chat to us. Many people decide to use Clearing because their circumstances have changed, they want to live closer to home or even because they're looking for a career change and want to begin this at university. It's a great way of taking control of your future.

Whatever your reasons for using Clearing, call us on +44 (0)1227 926000 and we'll do our best to help.

Yes, of course! The best thing to do is to apply as soon as you can. It really isn't too late to apply but the later you leave it, the later you may receive your money.

If your household income details are yet to be reviewed on your application for when you start uni, you'll receive the minimum student loan. This will make sure that you have money in your bank for when you start your course. Then, once the rest of your application has been reviewed, you'll receive the rest of the money that you're eligible for (if you're eligible, of course).

If anything changes, for example if you decide to change universities or your living arrangements change, then simply log in to your student finance account and add a change.

For more detailed instructions and real-life examples of applying for student finance through Clearing, go to the gov website for more information.

We offer a comprehensive range of undergraduate courses across the arts, health, teaching, sciences and engineering. Many of our courses can also be undertaken with a Foundation Year, which is a great way of getting into higher education if you have lower grades or choose to take a year to acclimatise to university life and study.

We recommend that you look through our courses and then contact us to discuss your choice or choices.

Whatever happens on results day, don't panic! You are in control!

Whether you've achieved your target grades but have decided you don't want to go to any of your initial choices, haven't received an offer, or have not quite got the grades you wanted, we can help. Just follow these three steps:

  1. Have your grades and UCAS ID to hand (it's useful to have your GCSE English and Maths grades in mind, too).
  2. Think about the course or subject area you wish to study.
  3. Call us on our Clearing hotline 01227 926000.

If we're able to make you an offer, you'll have three days in which to accept. You'll need to add the course to your UCAS account via the following steps:

  1. Log in to UCAS
  2. Click 'Add a Clearing choice'
  3. Fill in the course details.

We will confirm your acceptance within one working day.

If you want university accommodation, we've got you covered. If you apply for a course through Clearing at our Canterbury Campus, and are made an offer or accept an interview, we guarantee you a bedroom in university-approved accommodation for your first year through our Accommodation Guarantee scheme.

You will also need to have your student loan in place. We have lots of information about how student fees and funding works on the website, and you can also call our Course Enquiries team to chat about student finance on 01227 926000.

Finally, if you've not been before, why not come and visit us? We'd love to meet you!
