Dr Seyi Adesina

I am Section Director for Accounting, Economics and Finance at Christ Church Business School and a Principal Lecturer in Accounting.

I joined CCCU in November 2010 and am a Principal Lecturer and Section Director for Accounting, Economics and Finance. Before joining CCCU, I worked as a Sessional Lecturer in Accounting at Cardiff Business School for three years. I also worked in the financial services industry, which cuts across Retail Banking, Card Services and Insurance both within and outside the UK for over five years before coming into academia. I hold a PhD in Accounting, an MBA, a Postgraduate Diploma in Social Science Research (all at Cardiff University), and a BSc (Hons) Accounting (University of Ado-Ekiti, Nigeria).

I am a Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (SFHEA) with continued interest in the pedagogy of accounting education. I am committed to ongoing research in corporate governance, accounting for sustainability, corporate social responsibility and its link with organisational sustainability.I lead the IGNITE mentoring programme, which aims to identify and unlock black and ethnic minority students’ potential through mentoring and helping them succeed in higher education.

I teach across courses within the Accounting, Economics and Finance Section. In particular, I teach specialist management accounting modules accredited by professional accounting bodies. I also lead the team that teaches the academic skills module to our level 4 students, an essential part of their transition to higher education.

In the past, I have taught:

  • Financial Accounting (level 4)
  • International Financial Reporting (level 5)
  • Advanced Management Accounting (level 6)
  • Management Accounting & Decision Making (level 7)
  • Financial Management (level 7)
  • Financial Analysis & Control (level 7)
  • International Business Culture and Communication (level 7)

My research interests are in accounting for sustainability in business, corporate governance, corporate social responsibility and its link with organisational sustainability, and the public sector accounting change.

My work also extends to sustainability reporting and sustainability in accounting education, including how sustainability could be embedded into accounting teaching to engage future managers' minds in the broader sustainability issues.
