Dr David Budgen

Lecturer in American History and Culture and Course Director of British Studies

David received his BA, MA and PhD from the University of Kent. He teaches on undergraduate and postgraduate courses in English, History and American Studies. He is Course Director of British Studies, overseeing semester-long courses for international students.

David teaches across the the History, English Literature and American Studies BAs and the MAs in History and English Literature.

David's first book focused on representations of the First World War in children's literature throughout the twentieth century, tracing the shifting understandings of the conflict in the context of other historical, cultural and social factors. He is particularly interested in the role works of popular culture - such as cinema, television and literature - have played in shaping interpretations of the past in both Britain and the United States, with a particular focus on the World Wars.
