If you or someone you know is at risk, don’t hesitate to the call the following:

  • Call 999 if you need an ambulance urgently.
  • Contact your GP within surgery hours for general health concerns – it’s a good idea to make a note of their phone number.
  •  For medical concerns where you can’t see a GP, or if you’re concerned about someone else’s health or welfare, call NHS Direct 24/7: on 111.
  • Contact the Samaritans on 116 123 - for confidential, emotional support 24/7, and if you’re feeling suicidal. (You can also visit the Canterbury branch. Usual hours 8am-8pm Monday to Saturday) or email jo@samaritans.org
  • For 24/7 confidential, emotional support and guidance, call the Release the Pressure helpline team, a free service provided by the Rethink Mental Illness charity, funded by Kent County Council. Call the helpline on 0800 107 0160.  They also have details of local and national support services.
  • The 24/7 National Domestic Violence Helpline on 0808 2000 247 offers support, help, and information for women experiencing domestic violence and abuse. 
  • The Men's Advice Line on 0808 801 0327 offers advice and support for men experiencing domestic violence and abuse. (Opening hours 9am-5pm, Monday to Friday).

  • The Student Wellbeing Advisers – a team of professionally trained advisers offering support, advice, and guidance on a wide range of personal, financial, and academic matters. 
  • The Mental Wellbeing Team - offering free, confidential support for a wide range of personal and emotional concerns that may be affecting your capacity to study and having an impact on your university experience.  They offer in the moment and 24/7 support via Spectrum.Life.
  • The Chaplaincy - providing a confidential listening service and a safe space where you can discuss your problems in a non-judgmental environment.
