Explore your creativity with Canterbury Christ Church University and Fresh Film: Undiscovered Gems screenwriting competition, open to the entire Faculty of Arts, Humanities, and Education.

The competition

Craft a captivating 5-minute script for a short film centred around the theme of "A Day in the Life."

Whether you lean towards horror, romantic comedy, or thriller, the choice of genre is yours, as long as your narrative aligns with the theme.

Your script should not exceed five pages and must adhere to industry standards of professional presentation (examples will be provided for your guidance).

About Fresh Film

The competition is sponsored by Fresh Film, an esteemed BAFTA award-winning advertising production company with offices in the UK, USA, Thailand, Singapore, and Czech Republic, where CCCU alumnus Richard Carter-Hounslow is a producer. Richard has produced numerous television advertisements and an award-winning short film.

The prize

The top three scripts will receive personalised feedback from Richard, offering valuable insights on expanding the ideas into larger concepts and suggesting improvements.

The winner will be awarded a £100 Amazon gift voucher and three exclusive one-on-one mentoring sessions with Richard to delve deeper into the winning script or any other creative projects.

Challenge yourself

All submitted works will remain the intellectual property of the respective writers. The competition focuses solely on recognising exceptional writing; there is no promise of the scripts being produced. Judging criteria include the quality of dialogue, originality of the story, strength of characters, attention to detail, and overall entertainment value.

Test your storytelling skills and show us your interpretation of "A Day in the Life", embracing any genre that resonates with your creative vision. This is your opportunity to shine in a competition that values and celebrates the art of storytelling.

Make sure that you read the Terms & Conditions before submission.
