Special Collections and Archives

The Dover Wesleyan Methodist Scrapbook was compiled by William Debenham Atkins (1847-1928). It records the history of Wesleyan Methodism in the Dover Circuit. The Scrapbook was lost for some years until it was discovered in 2014 in the vestry of one of the remaining Methodist Churches in the Dover and Deal Methodist Circuit. Items of memorabilia were collected from members of the Methodist Circuit from 1934-2014 and these accompany the collection. The collection was acquired by Augustine House Library in 2022.

A project to photograph and catalogue each item in the Scrapbook was undertaken by three Applied Humanities students Amy Rose, Lily-Belle Matten and Ez Swanström whilst on placement with the library.
