Join the Academy for Sustainable Futures team in the Roundhouse on Anselm Lawn any time between 8am and 12pm on Wednesday 4th September for our annual heritage hop picking party and help us hand-harvest hops fresh from the bines ready to brew into this year's green hop ale!

Every year, the heritage hops that we grow on campus are hand-picked across the course of one morning by student and staff volunteers, and are then blessed by one of our University chaplains and carried on foot in hessian hop sacks down through the city to our microbrewery partners, Canterbury Brewers and Distillers at The Foundry Brewpub, where the hops are put straight into the kettles to begin the annual brew!

You're welcome to join us for some or all of this; no equipment needed but if you have sensitive skin you may want to bring your own gardening gloves (any will do!) Just pop by the Roundhouse and join us at any point during the morning to take part for as much time as you have free, and anyone who'd like to is welcome to help us haul the hops down to the brewery over lunchtime once all the hops are picked.
