Lift the Curfew - Did you know...
48% of women prefer not to be active outside after dark.
60% of women worry about the risk of sexual harassment or intimidation.
As the clocks go back and the nights grow longer...
Many women find themselves adjusting or avoiding outdoor exercise routines to feel safe. For some, winter months feel like a curfew.
Join us, alongside over 100 events across England, as we walk together to raise awareness and champion safety for all. CCCU X Lift The Curfew from This Girl Can are bringing this event to Canterbury to highlight the importance of feeling safe while staying active after dark.
If you feel affected by this issue, provided below are a list of resources to support you.
- Contact Victim Support for independent, free, and confidential advice
- England Athletics have produced a guide to running in the dark for individual runners and leaders that we would recommend reading through to consider ways to keep safe during your event.
- GoodGym have put together a training guide on male allyship to help improve women’s safety at night, which may be helpful to share with male runners joining your run.
