Find out the funding for student nurses available at CCCU.

If you’ve just finished school and want to embark on a nursing career, or you’ve decided on that big career change you’ve been dreaming of, becoming a nurse is one of the most rewarding jobs to choose.

At CCCU, we are proud to train our country’s future nurses so they’re ready to work on the front line of our hospitals and in our communities. Learning in industry-standard simulation facilities, our student nurses are immersed into different environments from week one, working alongside a strong, experienced team of academics, many of whom are experienced health professionals.

But we appreciate that going to uni (or going back to uni) comes with its worries. And one of those worries is money. Whether you’re a mature student who has childcare fees, or you’re fresh out of school and have no idea how to budget, you may be wondering how on earth you’ll fund your studies.

Thankfully there are a few funding opportunities out there for you. Finances shouldn’t be a barrier for you wanting to become a nurse. To make things easier, we’ve collated all the funding options that you could benefit from as a nursing student.

What funding is available for nursing students?

NHS Learning Support Fund

This government funded grant of £5,000 a year is awarded to a range of Health students including adult, child, and mental health nurses. And if you decide to study mental health nursing, you’ll receive an additional £1,000 from the government.

The Learning Support Fund is made up of four elements:

  • A training grant of £5,000
  • Parental support of £2,000 a year for parents who have children under 15, or 17 if they’re registered with special educational needs
  • Travel and accommodation expenses
  • The Exceptional Support Fund, which covers up to £3,000.

Depending on your circumstances, you’ll receive a substantial amount to help cover your outgoings as you train to become a nurse.

To apply, you must go to the NHSBSA website, where you’ll be able to register and find all the information you need for this grant.

CCCU Advantage Package

The CCCU Advantage Package covers essential costs during your course including:

  • Uniforms*
  • DBS checks
  • Occupational health costs, including immunisation.

This is available to all CCCU nursing students who have successfully completed the enrolment process.

*Whilst uniforms and badges are provided free of charge at the start of your course, if you’d like to replace any items, then this will incur a separate charge.

Partner Schools Award

If you studied at one of our partner schools, then you may be invited to apply for the scheme, which pays £500 for each year of study. As there are limited awards for our partner school students, you will have to interview beforehand.

In order to meet the criteria for this award, you’ll also need to become an SCE ambassador, which is a fantastic part-time, paid role, working with the Schools and Colleges Engagement team. This position is great for gaining work experience and is flexible, enabling you to fit work around your studies.

To check to see if your school is one of our partners, simply email to SCE team.

Sport Scholarship

If you’re a budding athlete or sportsperson, then you can apply for our Sport Scholarship. Depending on which level you perform at, you can receive up to £1,500.

You’ll also have a range of benefits including a free gym membership, access to sports therapy, and a tailored scholar sport kit.

Being a sport scholar comes with a program to actively get involved in, which includes:

  • Representing CCCU in BUCS or Varsity
  • Becoming a CCCU coach to support your fellow students
  • Engaging with SportsLab workshops
  • Being an ambassador during out University events, meetings, and open days.

As always, we appreciate that your studies take priority, so this all comes with the flexibility needed for you to succeed in your nursing studies, as well as thriving as a CCCU sport scholar.
