Are you from Ukraine and looking to study in the UK? Find out the requirements you need to study an undergraduate or postgraduate degree at Canterbury Christ Church University.

We continue to be shocked and saddened by the scenes we see in the news and on social media in Ukraine and are eager to support the Ukrainian community.

Please see below the ways we are supporting students from Ukraine who wish to study here.

Free English Language courses

Canterbury Christ Church University is offering free English as a second language classes for to displaced Ukrainians in the local area. The University will continue accepting new students. If you know Ukrainian family in the area who may benefit from these classes please forward this information to them and ask to complete the application form below.

Support for students from Ukraine who wish to study at CCCU

We recognise that you may not be able to provide transcripts or certificates from previous studies or obtain references in support of your application. Therefore, if you would like to be considered for a place on one of our courses then please:

  • Email clearing@canterbury.ac.uk with as much information as possible about your previous studies and work experience. Please let us know which course you would be interested in studying.
  • If you have copies of your previous qualifications or transcripts it would be helpful to include these with your email

If you would like to complete a postgraduate research degree (MA/MSc by Research or MPhil/PhD) with us the Graduate College would be pleased to discuss your application. Please email the academic lead for postgraduate research degrees, Dr Simon O'Leary (simon.oleary@canterbury.ac.uk), to discuss your proposed research topic.

Academic requirements

Undergraduate

Please note that the following information is just a guideline. Please check the entry requirements for your specific course as these may differ. You can check this by visiting the course page.

For foundation courses you should have:

  • Certificate of Complete General Secondary Education (Attestat) with a score of at least 6 out of 12.

For Year 1 entry you should have completed one of the below:

  • a recognised International Foundation course from a UK institution or a Ukrainian institution following a validated UK syllabus 
  • A Levels or International Baccalaureate. 

Postgraduate

For Master’s degree level, you should have:

  • a Bachelor’s degree or equivalent with a minimum of a 2:2 (with Honours).

For PhD level study, you should have:

  • a Master’s degree or equivalent from a recognised university.

English requirements

For foundation year entry

  • IELTS or equivalent – minimum of 5.0
  • IELTS Writing – minimum of 5.0
  • IELTS in all other bands – minimum of 4.0.

For undergraduate

  • IELTS or equivalent – 6.0 overall
  • IELTS Writing – minimum of 6.0
  • IELTS in all other bands – minimum of 5.5.

Please check with our International Team for your specific English requirements as some courses many differ.

If you have achieved at least a C in English IGCSE, this should be enough for you to be accepted onto an undergraduate course.

For postgraduate

  • IELTS – minimum of 6.5
  • IELTS Writing – minimum of 6.0
  • IELTS in all other bands – minimum of 5.5.
