CIPD Advanced Diploma Human Resource Management Level 7 Postgraduate Diploma

The Advanced Diploma in Human Resource Management (HRM) is a postgraduate qualification awarded by the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD) being delivered by Canterbury Christ Church University.

Effective people management is one of the most important issues in every sector of the economy and the role of Human Resource Management (HRM) professionals in advising and supporting line management to achieve an organisation's objectives has never been more vital.

The Business School is an accredited CIPD Licenced Centre, with a wealth of experience in delivering high-quality postgraduate HR courses. This CIPD accreditation is also a key element of the Business School's strong link with the professional body – particularly the CIPD's Kent branch.

This part-time Level 7 Diploma is designed to offer local HRM Professionals the opportunity to complete the academic requirements for Chartered Membership/ Fellowship of the CIPD. The course also meets the needs of employers who rely on highly educated HR managers to improve organisational effectiveness in the light of new challenges and demands.

Relevant experience could include:

  • having the responsibility for Human Resource (HR) decision making within an organisation at operational, tactical or more strategic level;
  • being an HR professional in a team or HR functional management role, seeking to enhance and develop your career;
  • having responsibilities for the HR function and activities within an organisation without a specialist function;
  • being an independent or employed consultant who supports organisations in meeting their goals.

On completion of the Diploma you will automatically be upgraded to Associate Membership of CIPD (Assoc.CIPD). Upgrading to Chartered Membership is dependent on appropriate workplace experience. We can work with you to help upgrade your membership to Chartered status.

Taught on a part-time basis (one afternoon and evening per week), the CIPD Advanced Diploma consists of eight modules and usually takes two years to complete.

You’ll need to attend for two four hour sessions on the same day once a week, together with one Saturday workshop for each module.

  • Leading, Managing & Developing People
  • Developing Skills for Business Leadership
  • Investigating a Business Issue from an Human Resources Perspective
  • Resourcing and Talent Management
  • Learning and Talent Development
  • Leadership and Management Development
  • Employment Law

The modules are all standalone so it is possible to take them on an individual basis to meet the needs of your previous studies and personal circumstances.

You’ll be required to become a student member of the CIPD. This entitles you to full access to the CIPD’s website and the monthly People Management Magazine, plus many other related benefits including the opportunity to attend CIPD Kent Branch meetings and events.

This course will enable you to develop the skills necessary for a successful career in HRM.

Completing the Advanced Diploma gives entry to the one-year part-time MA in Human Resource Management.

A range of assessments across the eight modules including case studies, group presentations, a management report and two CIPD examinations.

Entry requirements

  • You normally qualify for entry to this course if you have an undergraduate degree in any discipline or recognised equivalent, CIPD Level 3 or 5 Certificates.
  • You'll also need to be in employment in a HR or associated role, or have had previous experience in a substantive HR role.
