Clearing FAQs

Clearing gives you an opportunity to apply for a course starting this September, if you do not have a place already. We explain how it works, how to apply and other essential information about securing your place at university.

How Clearing works

What is Clearing?

Whether you've changed your mind, didn't get the results you expected, or have been away from education for some time - Clearing gives you the chance to get a place at university, as long as places are still available.

To see if you have been entered into Clearing, you will need to check UCAS Track – if you are in Clearing, your Clearing number will be displayed. To be eligible for Clearing, you cannot be holding any offers and this could be for a number of reasons such as, you weren’t made any offers, you declined your offers or you didn’t meet the conditions.

How do I see which courses have places remaining?

Check our list of courses that are available in Clearing. 

When can I use Clearing?

Clearing is available July to September each year. If you already have your exam results but you have no offers, you can use Clearing from July.

If you had conditional offers but your exam results didn’t go to plan, you can use Clearing from results day.

How to apply

How do I apply through Clearing?

To discuss your options or apply for a place on a course at Canterbury Christ Church University through Clearing, please call us on 01227 926000 first. We’re happy to talk through your options and give you some insight into life here at the university.

I have already applied to Christ Church but I want to change courses. Can I do this?

If there is space on the course, we’d be happy to discuss. Please call our Clearing team on 01227 926000 and we can discuss the options available to you.

I haven’t met the entry requirements for my chosen course, can I still apply?

My results were better than expected, can I change onto another course?

UCAS Adjustment gives you the chance to reconsider where and what you study. You could potentially swap your place for one on another course you prefer. Adjustment is available from A-Level results day until 31 August. If you are considering changing your course or applying to the University through the Adjustment process, you can call our Clearing team to discuss your options. Visit the UCAS website to find out more about the Adjustment process.

How do I accept an offer?

After you have spoken with us and once you have been verbally offered a place, you will need to confirm this on UCAS. Log in to your UCAS account and add us to Track. Enter our Institution Code C10 and the course details. Track is available from 3pm on 17 August.

Applying for student finance

If you have applied for student finance but have changed your course or university

You need to update your student finance as soon as possible. You can do this by logging into your account on the Government website.

If you haven’t applied for student finance

If you’ve gained a place through Clearing, you will need to apply straight away. Applications take at least six weeks to be processed by Student Finance England. Register as soon as you have your place confirmed. Apply now for student finance through the Government website. 

Additional support available

The Government provides extra student funding on top of the tuition fee loan and maintenance loan. You might be eligible for extra money on top of student loans, for example if you’re on a low income, are disabled or have children. Use the student finance calculator to get an idea of the amount you might expect to receive.

We also offer a range of scholarships, bursaries and grants especially for Canterbury Christ Church University students. Check our finance section to see if you are eligible for our awards.

Applying for accommodation

University accommodation is available and we’re offering an accommodation guarantee to Clearing applicants (subject to terms and conditions). Visit our accommodation page for full details.

Visiting the campus

We’re hosting Clearing events so you can meet with your future lecturers and current students. We'll take you around the campus and show you an example of our accommodation. Check the dates and book now.

Support for new students

Once your place is confirmed with us, we will send you a welcome email. This will contain all the instructions you need to create a university account.

We’ll invite you to join our pre-arrival Facebook group. This will put you in touch with everyone starting in September – so you can meet with people who are going to be on your course, living in your university accommodation or on the same commute.

To help you through the orientation and registration process, you'll be provided with a student mentor who will be your first point of contact and a warm welcome into our community.
