For a variety of reasons (illness, dyslexia, disability, English not your first language, etc.) you may be entitled to have special arrangements made for your examinations.

In order to apply for special arrangements, you will need to submit an application in writing to the Academic Registrar. You should:
- state your name and programme of study;
- make clear in your letter what special arrangements you are applying for;
- enclose the relevant supporting medical or professional documentation.
If your request relates to illness, disability or a serious personal circumstance then before applying to the Academic Registrar, it is recommended that you discuss your requirements with a Disability Adviser. The Adviser will help you to review your requirements, assist you in preparing your supporting evidence, and will also be able to let you know how the student Academic Learning Development unit may help support you in your studies, if this is considered appropriate.
For straightforward requests, e.g. the use of an English dictionary if English is not your first language, you do not need to refer to a Disability Adviser.
Applications for special arrangements should be made to the Academic Registrar as soon as possible, ideally before the end of January for the main summer examination period, to ensure that the appropriate arrangements can be put in place. You should note that special arrangements cannot be made until your application has been formally agreed by the University. In consequence, retrospective consideration cannot be given to work already assessed. However, if formal agreement is reached after work has already been assessed, you may submit evidence of Extenuating Circumstances to the Academic Registrar, but this will not lead to an automatic review of the work. It is for this reason that it is in your interest to seek advice from a Disability Adviser, and to submit your application as early as possible.
