Kent Women's Cricket and Christ Church strengthen their partnership

Canterbury Christ Church University has extended their successful sponsorship of the Kent Women's Cricket Team.
The University, which has campuses across Kent and Medway, has been the major sponsor of the most successful county in women's cricket for the past four years.
Under the new partnership, the University's distinctive logo will appear on the squad's playing and training kit, made by Samurai Sportswear.
Vice-Chancellor of Canterbury Christ Church University, Professor Rama Thirunamachandran, said: “We are delighted to continue our partnership with Kent Women’s Cricket, and to maintain our support for women’s sport.
The team have worked hard and enjoyed great success over the last few years, with a number of their players featuring in the England team which won the 2017 Women’s Cricket World Cup. We wish them well for another successful season and look forward to supporting them to many more victories.”
As well as continuing to support the women’s game, the new sponsorship agreement will also help to identify and develop young, emerging talent in the region.
Kent County Cricket Academy scholars will be able to visit the University’s sport facilities and receive support from experts at the University to help them learn about the opportunities available to them, such as studying for a degree in Sport and Exercise Science at Canterbury Christ Church. Kent Cricket and the University will also offer a selection of academy players a sports bursary if they choose to study at the University.
Women's head coach Lydia Greenway, who won the Ashes twice and the World Cup in 225 appearances for England, said: “Cricket is more popular than ever with women and girls having more opportunities to play the game at clubs and schools.
Canterbury Christ Church University’s support is vital to keep growing the game in Kent and inspiring women and girls to be active and play the sport.”
Paul Carney, Director of Sport at Christ Church, added: “We are excited to about our new sponsorship with Kent Cricket as not only will it help develop the next generation of players achieve their potential, but it also continues our support for Women’s sport.
“Over the last three years at the University we have seen many more female students engage in recreational sport and our continued sponsorship of the Kent Women’s Cricket sends an important message about our commitment to the development of sporting opportunities for women and girls.”
This year will be a big year for women's cricket as the reigning world champions England visit the Spitfire Ground on Friday 15 June to play South Africa in the Royal London One-Day International series.
