Tutor: Mark Hopkinson | Canterbury campus | £105
This is a course for considering big ideas in provocative and inspiring films. We’ll look at theories and concepts from the related areas of philosophy and politics (e.g. existentialism, psychoanalysis, left/right political ideologies, postmodernism) and ask how they can help us to understand complex and beautiful films like Her, Land and Freedom, The Seventh Seal, My Night at Maud’s, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, Hiroshima mon Amour and Mulholland Drive. Sessions will be based around screenings of key scenes (not entire films) as well as group discussions. There will be suggested readings for optional further study.
