Over the course of three weeks, participants will learn printmaking
techniques and also have time to experiment with their own project.
During the first week you will focus on collagraph, a very versatile
method of print that uses found objects of low relief to create your
own hand made plate. Objects such as lace, cut card, embossed
wallpaper, string, thread, may be constructed, stuck down then
varnished to affect a plate which is then inked and printed.
The results are often delightful, rich, with a unique strong three
dimensional quality.
The second week will explore soft ground etching using found
objects, which are pressed into soft wax, drawn into with a stick
or pen and then bitten into acid. This technique can give a perfect
reproduction of a texture or material such as a feather, threads,
leaves, bark, sandpaper and lace. The plates are then inked to give an
embossed low relief print.
The third week will be an opportunity to use the facilities and your
new knowledge to work on projects of your own design.
