Tuesday 16 January 2018 | 10am-12pm |8 sessions Tutor: Victoria Field | Canterbury campus | £84 This short course will explore the idea of the sacred and the spiritual through reading and responding to the life and work of women poets. We will begin with the nineteenth century and look at the work of Emily Dickinson and Christina Rossetti. We will then read twentieth century poets, including Kathleen Raine, Denise Levertov, Mary Oliver, Jane Kenyon and Jane Hirshfield. Depending on the interests of the group, we may also include some poets in translation such as Anna Akhmatova. In parallel, we will discuss what is meant by ‘sacred’, especially in relation to work by these women. The sessions will include some creative writing in response to what we have read. No experience necessary.
