Sunday 3 December 2017|10am-4pm Tutor: Geoff Doel | Canterbury campus | £39 Canterbury’s famous son, Kit Marlowe, grew up surrounded by dramatic and ritualistic influences in the Mystery plays of the Church, the King’s School, the civic entertainments of his native city and in the folk customs of the surrounding countryside. This day school will focus on many of these possible influences, including Church and Civic drama, touring companies of actors, and folk drama and rituals such as Mummers plays and Midwinter animal disguise customs, including the Hooden Horse. For Marlowe himself, we’ll look at his short but eventful life and particularly focus on Dr Faustus and its links with medieval drama and folk culture.
