Tuesday 7 November 2017 | 10am-12pm |3 sessions Tutor: Liz Mitchell | Canterbury campus | £32 Philosophers have often intertwined literature and philosophical ideas. In this course we will discuss 3 diverse examples. Firstly, we will discuss Plato’s unforgettable images of the cave and the line to question our grip on reality. We will move on to Kierkegaard’s use of the story of the biblical Abraham and Isaac to explain a higher morality. Finally we will consider a philosophical short story: Primo Levi’s moving If This Is a Man. The focus of the course will be a discussion of how writers convey meaning and stimulate us to think for ourselves.
