Tuesday 19 September 2017 | 2pm-4pm |10 sessions Tutor: Mark Hopkinson | Canterbury campus | £105 This course is about how we can use major sociological theories and concepts to understand the social world around us. We’ll be relating these ideas to our own lives. For example, does George Ritzer’s idea of McDonaldisation remind you of your own workplace? Does our media ‘manufacture consent’, to use Chomsky’s expression? Do we live in a postmodern world and, if so, does this liberate us or make our lives frighteningly unstable – or both? We’ll look at issues to do with education, politics, gender, media, family life and lots more.
