Creating the Estate Master Plan

The process of developing our Estate Master Plan began in 2014 when BDP was commissioned to produce an estate strategy for the North Holmes Campus.

The first phase in the development of the Estate Master Plan got underway in September 2014, and took a broad look at all the University’s campuses and buildings and considered how we can make best use of our estate as a whole.

During the first phase our design consultant, BDP, visited all of our 185 buildings across the campus network and consulted University staff and students. They also drew on a number of key documents provided by the University.

The second stage involved looking more closely at each campus including the former prison site and developing ideas for how they can be developed to:

  • Meet the University’s strategic and academic aims
  • Create an environment that enhances the staff and student experience
  • Create a positive impact on our local communities.

During the second phase, the University and BDP have consulted with local and national stakeholders including residents' associations, heritage organisations and local authorities. Their feedback has informed the design process.
